I have been trying to keep Zoe busy with worksheets and reading during our Summer break. So far, so good. She seems to enjoy learning at home with me as her teacher.
I obtained worksheets from Zoe's second grade teacher. She was cleaning her cupboards out, and gave the children all of her old curriculum workbooks. She was very careful to not make any marks in her books, only copying the pages for the students to use. This was a God send for me.
I do not have the means at this point to purchase much of anything. I did happen to find some really good deals at Target, of all places! Their dollar spot had many workbooks, lesson planners, and misc. supplies like reward stickers and stamps. I hit the mother load there! I was able to get some really good quality items all for around fifteen dollars total. I was like a kid in a candy store.
Zoe is really into reading, and we want to foster that love as much as possible. In speaking with our education specialist, she turned me onto a website called Book Adventure , which is a FREE reading incentive program offered through Sylvan Learning Centers. Your child reads a book, takes a short quiz and earns points towards prizes like books, candy bars from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (yummy!), and much more. Or, you can even set up a custom prize pack of your own.
Our e.s. told me that I should expect to receive a boatload of emails from her with ideas and links. She said I will probably get sick of hearing from her, but I actually welcome it. Having someone doing the footwork for a change is pretty exciting for me!
